The Art of Healing
My life could be summarized as "so many interests, so little time." This shows up everywhere! To tell you who I am and what I'm about is not easily accomplished in just a few lines, but I can break it down into three categories: writing, art and everything else. The "everything else" I will just call "service" because, in reality, everything I do could go under that umbrella. A primary effect of service is healing.
My interest in health and healing was prompted by a life-long struggle to manage a complicated, and often baffling, chronic health condition. Decades of trial and error taught me that healing is more of an art than a science - and a spiritual one at that. Three science degrees and a career as an RN did not produce all the answers I needed! In my continuing quest, I realized that true healing is really a mosaic - a dance of the body, mind and spirit. I eventually realized everything I had done was, in one way or another, about healing on one or more levels. Facilitating healing is a great way of being in service... I mean, who can't use a little of that?
I have come to view all creativity as an extension of spirit, and when this is done with the proper intention, healing can occur. In other words, what we do is not as important as how we do it. I believe whatever we are gifted, by way of our own innate talents and life experiences, can and should be shared. Service to others and service to self don't have to be mutually exclusive, and if you subscribe to the "we are all One" theory (which I do), they are one in the same.

WritingI have been a professional writer for about a decade and a casual writer for much longer. My professional focus is health and science writing because I'm a died-in-the-wool science geek. I have functioned as a ghostwriter, in addition to publishing under my own name.
If you are in need of a writer, contact me and we'll talk. |
ArtI have been painting, drawing, or making stuff out of other stuff for as long as I can remember. Without art, I feel dead inside and life lacks joy, richness and meaning.
For many years, I allowed art to be lost from my life. Never again! My latest love is creating one-of-a-kind functional jewelry with natural healing stones, such as the amazing mineral called shungite. |
ServiceOnce I figured out that service is everything, finding ways of being in service to my fellow humans, animals and planet became a central life theme.
My particular brand of service has taken many forms. Sharing information through my writing and my roles as a healer and also as a learning facilitator for A Course in Miracles are a few examples. |
A Little About MeI live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my two fur babies Rumi and Rishi. That is Rumi, on the right. My daughter Jamie and her husband reside in Idaho, and my mother is a more recent Olympia transplant. All of my family are owned by cats. Maybe it's in the DNA.
When I'm not writing or creating art, I can be found cooking, gardening, doing yoga, binging on Netflix, or snuggling with felines - or more likely, simultaneously juggling all of the above. I have not yet fully learned the art of balance. My number one daily goal is the practice of gratitude. I am a work in progress. |
